Call for Papers: SHARE User Conference 2022

SHARE will hold its 7th User Conference in Bled, Slovenia, 5-7 October 2022. The conference theme is Ageing Societies Facing Health, Social and Economic Crises.

SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) is a unique research infrastructure to analyse ageing societies. From 2004 until today, 530,000 in-depth interviews with 140,000 people aged 50 or older from 28 European countries and Israel have been conducted. SHARE is the largest pan-European social science panel study providing internationally comparable longitudinal micro data which allows insights in the fields of public health and socio-economic conditions of Europeans. SHARE is embedded in a network of sister studies all over the world, from the Americas to Eastern Asia.

SHARE’s design, content, spread and methodology make it ideally suited to study complex phenomena and challenges that unroll over time in many different countries simultaneously. Such complex phenomena have been abound in recent years: To the original focus of longevity and demographic change have been added the financial crisis and Great Recession, the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and biodiversity loss. The SHARE survey data can help explore, describe, and understand social processes such as ageing at a time of global crisis from an international perspective and by involving researchers from different scientific fields. One of the solutions to the advancement of our societies is artificial intelligence and machine learning and we encourage researchers to discuss the use of such methodologies with SHARE data and their potential implications for research and policies in the future.

The 7th SHARE User Conference will address these topics with invited speakers, special sessions, contributed talks, posters and workshops for users of SHARE data. We invite papers using SHARE data on all research areas covered in SHARE, ranging from health, work and retirement, pensions, income and wealth, health care, family and social networks, the nature of inequality, extending to survey methodology. We explicitly invite contributions that make use of the two SHARE Corona surveys, of the longitudinal dimension of the SHARE data and combine SHARE data with data from associated studies (ELSA, HRS, JSTAR, CHARLS, etc.).

All submissions should include an abstract of maximum of 300 words providing information about the research question, the variables used, type of empirical analysis and possible results. Abstracts should include text only. Images (pictures, figures) and tables are not accepted. Abstracts should be submitted to email address shareuser2022@ier.si  until 15 June 2022. Authors should state whether they are interested in an oral or poster presentation, however the decision on type of presentation will be made by the conference team. Authors of accepted papers (poster or oral presentation) will be notified by 1 August 2022. There will be no conference fee; however, travel and accommodation should be covered by the participants themselves.
