Around 530,000 interviews with approximately 140,000 individuals have been collected in over 28 countries since 2004. Researchers from all over the world are studying the effects of health, social, economic and environmental policies over the life-course of European citizens and beyond with the data. About one publication per day emanates from SHARE data, covering economic, health and social science topics from retirement saving to active ageing and care at the end of life.

SHARE has become ever more important as a tool for evidence-based policy making due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study is the ideal database to examine the non-intended socio-economic and health consequences of the epidemiological containment decisions and the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic due to its life-course and multidisciplinary approach combining health with socio-economic data.

The scientific results of the study are regulary communicated to public policy makers at the EU and national levels as well as to the press.
