Human Rights of Older Persons: the Data Gap

The report “World Population Ageing 2020 Highlights: Living arrangements of older persons” by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) examines living arrangements of older persons and their interrelationship with socio-economic, cultural and health related aspects of their lives in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Here, SHARE research is used to shed light on the living situation of older persons who live independently, i.e. not in some kind of care facility, especially regarding these people’s satisfaction with their living situation. Further, it discusses preliminary results of the analysis of the susceptibility of older persons to COVID-19. The report concludes with recommendations for government policies to address population ageing.
