The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is an international panel study established in 2004 that collects socio-economic and biomedical life course data from people aged 50 and over (approx.160,000 to date) in almost 30 countries. It provides internationally comparable longitudinal microdata for scientific research and policy advice. As Europe's largest social science panel study and one of the major European research infrastructures in the field of social sciences, SHARE also has the legal form of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) since 2011.

The SHARE BERLIN Institute GmbH (SBI) is the seat of the central coordination of SHARE and related scientific research. The SBI was founded in 2022 by the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Centre of Gerontology (DZA).

We are now seeking a motivated individual to join our team in an international and academically stimulating environment. We are offering an interesting and varied role with the opportunity to make a significant impact.

Student Assistant (f/m/d)

to support the activities of the SHARE Research Data Center (36-60 hours per month)

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the SoGreen project – a collaboration project funded by the European Commission between SHARE and the European Social Survey (ESS), the Gender & Generations Survey (GGS) and Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE).
  • Interest in the topic of SoGreen: social aspects of the green transition.
  • Assist in making geographic data available to SHARE user in a GDPR conform way.
  • Support in the organization of meetings and workshops.
  • Conduct statistical analyses using survey, spatial and population data.
  • Conduct background research for various research projects.

Your profile:

  • Ongoing Bachelor or Master Studies in Statistics, Social Science, Economics or Business Informatics, Computer Science or a related field at a University, University of Applied Sciences, or comparable institution.
  • Command of the English language.
  • Self-organized and proactive working style.
  • Strong quantitative skills, experience or interest in working with spatial and/or survey data is a plus.
  • Experience using R, Python or Stata, or interest in learning these.
