The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is an international panel study established in 2004 that collects socio-economic and biomedical life course data from people aged 50 and over (approx.160,000 to date) in almost 30 countries. It provides internationally comparable longitudinal microdata for scientific research and policy advice. As Europe's largest social science panel study and one of the major European research infrastructures in the field of social sciences, SHARE also has the legal form of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) since 2011.

The SHARE BERLIN Institute GmbH (SBI) is the seat of the central coordination of SHARE and related scientific research. The SBI was founded in 2022 by the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Centre of Gerontology (DZA).

We are now seeking a motivated individual to join our team in an international and academically stimulating environment. We are offering an interesting and varied role with the opportunity to make a significant impact. The SHARE BERLIN Institute GmbH (SBI) is looking for a

 

Student Assistant (f/m/d)

to support the activities of the SHARE Germany team (6-8h/week).

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Support machine learning projects within the SHARE survey
  • Support improvement of the SHARE Infrastructure, related to automatic scoring of dementia screening tests
  • Implement automatic coding of job descriptions using language models
  • Tasks that take your skills and interest as well as our needs into account

Your profile:

  • A general interest in machine learning and survey data
  • Studying a related field, e.g. sociology, psychology, computer science, economics, statistics
  • Helpful skills (not mandatory): Python, R, STATA, VS Code, Linux, Git and/or LaTeX
  • Some programming experience
  • Good English and/or German language skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
